Getting man, machine together
Article Abstract:
Corporate security departments are under pressure to maximize the use of resources to justify security investment. The 'shared services' concept is one cost-efficient tool in which security offices share a common technology such as a server or administrator to save on costs and at the same time enhance regulatory compliance and audit ability. Increased use of technology, however, should not intimidate security directors, who can only benefit from such experience.

Chips & robbers
Article Abstract:
Sun Microsystems security director John O'Loughlin said theft of high-tech equipment exacts a heavy toll on the high-tech industry. A study conducted by Santa Monica, CA-based Rand Corp estimates direct and indirect costs associated with theft to total over $5 billion a year. O'Loughlin says the right approach to rectify the problem is proactive, but notes that the viability of the activity makes it hard to attack the root of the problem.
