Article Abstract:
The roster of unions active in California includes venerable organizations from labor's history, those that organized the manufacturing and trades workforce during the first half of the 20th century, auto and garment workers, truck drivers and dockworkers. Brief capsules on labor's oldest and newest unions, prepared by students at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Journalism is presented.

Santa Barbara County has two faces: the upscale wine-and brie set in the south and the blue-collar, working class communities to the north. Frustrated by their differences, a group of northern residents have a ballot measure brewing that will let voters decide whether to create California's first new county in almost 100 years: the proposed Mission County.
