Pension portability and labor mobility: evidence from the survey of income and program participation
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the impact of pension portability on labor mobility is presented. Earlier studies have concluded that pension backloading has led to low job mobility rates for pension covered workers. However, analysis shows that it is the compensation premium which conditions mobility. This premium allows higher levels of compensation for pension covered jobs. Further evidence shows that defined contribution plans and defined benefit plans both exhibit negative relations to mobility.
