Next-generation cards, readers take 'multi-tech' to new level

The increasing number of available access control technologies, which now includes biometric and smart card in addition to the traditional magnetic stripe and bar code technologies, has given birth to the multi-tech card. The card, which can be used with any existing access control technology, is emerging as the standard in cashless transactions. Instead of favoring a single technology, the current trend is to incorporate all existing technology into a a card that can be read by all types of readers.

Safer locks: Central Bank integrates electronic safe locks into their overall security plan

Central Bank of Nicholasville, KY, has replaced its mechanical locks with electronic safe locks. The move is part of the federal reserve bank's safe management and security enhancement program. The bank used Sargent and Greenleaf Inc's Comptronic Electronic Safe Lock for all its safes and vaults. The product complements the company's current security set-up, including close circuit television and access control.
