The schoolboy days of Gray Davis
Article Abstract:
There has been little publicity about the fact that California Governor Gray Davis attended a private school, Harvard School in North Hollywood, CA. In order to gain entry to this school, it is necessary to perform extremely well in standardized tests. This may be why Davis places strong emphasis on test scores as a way of addressing the problem of failing schools. Some observers believe that it is hard to find depth in Davis, but his weak point is starting to become exposed. This was seen in his refusal to bring California up to the national average in per-pupil classroom spending. He seems to lack the sort of substance that the teachers at Harvard School seek to instill.

Sense of place: SoCal wins in North vs. South
Article Abstract:
California Gov Gray Davis has expressed his intention to hold office in South California in a break from tradition. This is not entirely surprising because the region has a burgeoning population and is economically strong. The City of Los Angeles alone has a population of almost 4 million. The entire Los Angeles County is populated by almost 10 million people, which is almost a third of the state population.
