The virtues of transnationalism
Article Abstract:
The policies and electoral outcomes of individual nations have increasingly wide consequences for other nations. Economic policies in particular have transnational effects, as shown by the monetary crisis in Britain. This crisis has its roots in the policies of the German national bank and in the dollar's general weakness. German reunification was pursued without due concern for its international monetary fallout. The unnecessarily long duration of French and US elections has a destabilizing effect on the world economy. The democratic process in individual states must quicken to the pace dictated by interdependence.

'News' from a political point of view
Article Abstract:
Much of today's current news is hidden behind inconsequential gossip that the political mind must reject in order to find the hard core information. Some important new items are: the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade Uruguay Round, European economic integration and monetary union, the collapse of the USSR and Yugoslavia and the economic situation in the US, Germany and Japan. The financial ruin of the Maxwell publishing empire and William Kennedy Smith's rape trial also constitute real news.

The blind alleys of contemporary political philosophy
Article Abstract:
John Gray has published a critique of John Rawls' book 'A Theory of Justice' in the Times Literary Supplement. In it he laments contemporary political philosophers' neglect of social reality and insulation from other disciplines such as international political economy. Those following Rawls' lead have failed to account for the whole of human experience by confining their inquiry to narrowly circumscribed ideas of justice.
