Transnational corporations and public accountability
Article Abstract:
The issue of public accountability of Transnational Corporations (TNCs) in the light of the experiences of the past 30 years is addressed. An overview of the attempts initiated by governments, international organizations, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), advocacy groups and business groups to establish mechanisms of accountability that would operate at the global scale as the activities of TNCs is presented.

Global governance and legitimacy problems

The normative legitimacy deficits of international institutions are in fact increasingly generating problems with respect to societal acceptance. The new quality of international institutions that have emerged in context over the past two decades, giving rise to the term global governance is discussed.

Civil society and democratically accountable global governance
Article Abstract:
An analysis focusing on eight years of observations of civil society involvement in an incipient global polity is presented. The outcomes suggest that civil society associations can make important contributions to greater democratic accountability in global governance.
