Four private hospitals contribute medical personnel for six public health centers under a program by Detroit's Health Dept. Nurses, midwives and physicians from four hospitals spent part of their work time at their home hospital and the rest of their time at public clinics. The program helps to ensure continuity in care as well as exposes health practitioners to a different aspect of health care.

Under capitation methods, the staff can save money and avoid the red tape involved in handling Medicaid recipients. For instance, a staff member of the alliance can order nursing care in the home of a patient who needs temporary treatment but wants to remain independent.
