An occupational transmission of HIV: collision of ethical worlds in nursing practice
Article Abstract:
A case study of a nurse who becomes infected with HIV on the job illustrates the conflict between different views of ethics in the medical profession. The views of ethics can come from the patient, the institution or the nurses. The nurse is infected from a needle that another nurse had carelessly left on a shelf. The hospital she works in does not reveal the results of her HIV test, and makes her work with only AIDS patients, secretly knowing that she is HIV-positive. She later sues the hospital.

Article Abstract:
US nursing began in 1992 to become a more organized, assertive discipline determined to influence national health policy. Continuing to act as health advocates requires nurses to develop skills as feminist and traditional leaders, active participants in policy development, and in awareness of lessons from the recent past.

A nursing critique of US welfare system reform
Article Abstract:
The Aid to Families with Dependent Children program was repealed in 1996 in the name of welfare reform. These supposed improvements may have increased US families entering poverty with subsequent increases in the rates of injury, illness, and death.
