Commentaries on venous leg ulcers diagnostic and treatment draft guideline

Article Abstract:

University of Pennsylvania School medical researchers have drafted a guideline concerning diagnosis and treatment of venous leg ulcers. Guideline information was gathered from an interdisciplinary group of clinicians involved in wound care and reviewed by a national advisory panel. Five diagnostic modes on clinical assessment, venous disease, ankle brachial index, arterial disease, and pressure ulcers make up the diagnostic algorithm.

Debridement: choices and challenges

Article Abstract:

Contaminated wounds heal best after their nonviable tissue has been debrided. Sharp debridement uses surgical instruments to cut away dead tissue, mechanical methods involve scrubbing force or wet-to-dry dressings, chemical debridement uses enzymes for selective work, and moisture-retentive dressings can aid the body to dissolve necrotic tissue in autolytic debridement. Some ulcers do not require debridement.

Promotion of wound healing with electrical stimulation

Article Abstract:

Electrical stimulation (ES) has been used effectively in the promotion of wound healing. The natural bioelectric system in the human body stimulates the healing process in bones and soft tissue wounds. ES imitates this natural electric system and and speeds up the natural healing process. The only reported adverse side effect of ES has been a slight tingling sensation.
