Considerations related to disability and exercise in elderly women with congestive heart failure
Article Abstract:
Normal left ejection fraction-congestive heart failure is a common cardiovascular problem in older women and the presence of many of its physiologic and pathophysiologic changes in sedentary people as well makes disuse and subsequent deconditioning a likely cause. Exercise and increased mobility should form part of the nursing care plans of women with this disability. Since patients with congestive heart failure have a demonstrably lower quality of life, finding effective treatment is very important.

Team management of congestive heart failure across the continuum
Article Abstract:
Nurses should work with other health care providers to coordinate the inpatient, outpatient, and home care of patients with congestive heart failure (CHF). CHF admissions to hospitals are increasing. Hospital stays can be shortened and readmission rates reduced if more services for CHF patients are provided on an outpatient basis. Vasopressor infusions can be performed at home if carefully monitored. Nurses can act as case managers to coordinate the care, education and support of CHF patients.

Disease management for chronic congestive heart failure
Article Abstract:
A nurse-managed chronic care clinic focusing on chronic heart failure patients has significantly reduced health care costs. The clinic utilizes clinical nurse specialists, also known as nurse practitioners, who provide services including pharmacotherapy, counseling, and exercise training for heart failure patients. The clinic is planning to add management options for diabetes and chronic obstructive lung diseases.
