Evidence on the determinants of Canadian provincial government health expenditures: 1965-1991
Article Abstract:
Real provincial per capita income, the proportion of the provincial population over age 65 and real provincial per capita federal transfer revenues are major determinants of real per capita provincial government expenditures on health care of Canada from 1965 to 1991. Such determinants are found to have a positive and significant relationship with real per capita provincial government health expenditures. Real per capita provincial government health expenditures are also found to be a necessity good as evidenced by an income elasticity of 0.77.
