Florida health care
Article Abstract:
Florida is implementing a health care reform plan based on Community Health Purchasing Alliances (CHPAs). The state is divided into 11 districts, each with its own CHPA. Businesses can voluntarily join the CHPAs, which will offer information on Accountable Health Partnerships (AHPs) in the region. AHPs are either insurers or HMOs that have been certified by Florida's agency for Health Care Administration and must report information to the agency. The program is voluntary, and physicians, hospitals, insurers and many businesses support the plan.

Who will represent health systems in the year 2000?
Article Abstract:
The approaching evolution to integrated delivery of health care makes it important for every hospital system to belong to organizations that supply support, information and leadership. The lobbying activities of these groups put the opinions of healthcare providers before the legislators and the public. The Henry Ford Health System, for instance, belongs to the Group Health Assn of America, the American Hospital Assn, The American Group Practice Assn and the Medical Group Management Assn.

Rural priorities: hospital links and managed care contracts top the list
Article Abstract:
Rural hospitals face many challenges, according to a recent survey of some 200 rural CEOs by Hospitals & Health Networks. Although 85% of respondents agreed that close links with physicians were necessary for survival, only 30% were using the integration model. Nearly half of respondents have affiliated with other hospitals to increase managed care contracting opportunities and facilitate the recruitment of doctors.
