Health insurance choices in two-worker households: determinants of double coverage
Article Abstract:
Couples who are both employed have the tendency to gain more generous health insurance coverage as compared to single-worker couples. However, competition among health care providers has led employers to require their employees to share health care costs, thus, discouraging two-worker households to seek double coverage. Analysts believe that a direct relationship exists between household health insurance decisions and household premium costs for employment-related coverage, economic constraints and health status.

Article Abstract:
The Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) was created to provide the health services research and health policy community with facts that discuss health care use, expenditures, payment sources and health insurance status of the American population. It also provides information for analysts regarding how individual, family and health insurance characteristics affect medical care services and spending. The MEPS components, with an emphasis on their improvements, were discussed.
