Hospital expenditures in the United States and Canada: do hospital worker wages explain the differences?
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the disparity between US and Canadian hospital expenditures and whether this could be attributed to hospital worker wages. Results showed that on the contrary, higher wages could not explain the discrepancy. Results also revealed that US wages were lower than those of Canada. The data suggested thatthe discrepancy in hospital expenditures between the two countries were affected by the quantity of factor inputs and output differences rather than infactor prices.

Estimating the indirect costs of teaching
Article Abstract:
The study demonstrates that a more extensive check of specification could make the Medicare's Prospective Payment System on teaching hospitals a more acceptable payment system. Medicare's payment formulas uses a regression coefficient in a log-log cost function that is sensitive to the covariates included in the function. A re-specified equation shows that the coefficient is not senstive to addition of other covariates by making the bias present in the coefficient a negligible factor.
