Article Abstract:
State attorneys general are responding to the sharp upswing of hospital conversions with tighter scrutiny to ensure against violations of the Nonprofit Corporations Act. Since joint ventures involve commingling of charitable and for-profit assets, an increase of 100% asset sales are expected. State attorneys are responding to public pressure to keep health care from becoming profit-driven and to protect charitable assets.
