Inching toward EDI: experts look at obstacles
Article Abstract:
Hospitals must take steps to plan for the implementation of electronic data interchange (EDI), a system for sharing information among hospitals, insurers, and the federal government. A number of such steps are described, such as assessing the readiness of current systems to combine with EDI. Other issues involved in planning for EDI are judging to what degree a hospital's existing systems are integrated and whether the hospital can afford the staff and computer interfaces necessary to use EDI.
