Article Abstract:
The materials management department should review and reengineer their existing policies and business practices to align itself with the hospital's strategic mission. The reengineering process, however, will require identification of processes which need modification, visualization of future direction as well as information gathering and strategic planning to obtain a seamless, customer-oriented, information-rich supply chain.

These entail decreasing the cost of purchasing, the implementation of system technologies to automate paper processes, and empowering work teams.
