Starting up the upstarts
Article Abstract:
Venture capital is moving toward health care companies that manage care better and more consistently, not just companies that cut costs. Some venture financiers think effective medicine is a good investment and are showing an interest in practice management companies and information technology. Care-oriented companies are trying out clinical protocols, patient self-reporting, clinical trials, and case management. Venture capital grew to $1.1 billion in 1996 in a rapidly-changing environment.

Patient advocates offer their clients a variety of services which include representation against insurance companies and advice on healthcare plan management and medical bill administration.
