The effect of Medicaid reimbursement on quality of care in nursing homes
Article Abstract:
The effects of Medicaid reimbursement on the quality of care are analyzed using a national sample of nursing homes and nursing home residents. Many researches on the Medicaid payment policy dwelt on its impact on costs and access. Some studies have concluded that raising reimbursement may lead to a lower quality of care provided by homes. It is concluded that higher intensity of professional staffing positively affects resident outcomes. More generous Medicaid reimbursement may not have a major effect on staffing or other nursing home operations.
