Worker demand for health insurance in the non-group market: a note on the calculation of welfare loss
Article Abstract:
Compensating variation measure explains Marquis' and Long's overestimation of welfare losses on mandated insurances for families. Extent of overestimation are computed both on income and premium-based measures with slight variation using simulation methods. The study reveals an average 50-fold overestimation of welfare loss in an income-based approach that is not premium capped.

Quality and employers' choice of health plans
Article Abstract:
The performance of the plans that health firms choose to offer their employees is measured using data from the Health Plan Employer Data Information Set (HEDIS) and the Consumer Assessment of Health Plan Survey (CAHPS). The analysis shows that the employers offer plans with strong absolute and relative HEDIS and CAHPS performance measures.
