A 45-year-old woman with a thoracic mass and Pancoast's syndrome
Article Abstract:
A 45-year-old woman was admitted to a hospital with the symptoms of Pancoast syndrome. This syndrome is often caused by tumors in the lungs and a chest X-ray showed a mass at the top of her right lung. However, her symptoms had begun three years before her admission. For this reason, it seemed unlikely that the tumor was malignant. A biopsy of the mass revealed that the mass was a fibromatosis. This is a relatively benign tumor that does not usually spread to other parts of the body. She was treated with radiation therapy.

A 21-week-old girl with fever and a renal mass
Article Abstract:
A 21-week-old female baby was admitted to a hospital with the symptoms of a urinary tract infection and the presence of a mass in her right kidney. Her urine contained E. coli, a bacterium that normally occurs in the colon. For this reason, her doctors suspected a kidney disease called acute lobar nephronia. This is caused by a bacterial infection, most often E. coli.
