A 61-year-old man with Parkinson's disease
Article Abstract:
A 61-year-old man with episodes of drooling, and difficulty speaking and maintaining his balance was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease (PD). The typical symptoms of PD included tremor, slow movement, disturbed gait, and response to levodopa. Levodopa with a decarboxylase inhibitor, such as carbidopa, is typically used to treat PD, and has been somewhat successful with this patient. People with PD often develop depression that may be treated with tricyclic antidepressants or serotonin reuptake inhibitors. This patient developed depression and responded well to medication. Other forms of treatment for PD may involve pharmaceuticals that may slow the deterioration of nerve cells, such as selegiline and vitamin E supplements. Various experimental surgical procedures are also available. This patient's symptoms are relatively under control with carbidopa, levodopa, selegiline hydrochloride, sertraline hydrochloride, and vitamin E.

Neuroprotection in Parkinson disease: mysteries, myths, and misconceptions
Article Abstract:
More research is needed before dopamine agonists can be given to all patients with Parkinson's disease. These drugs can protect the brain from toxic damage. They are antioxidants, they can reduce some of the damage caused by levodopa, and have other beneficial effects on the brain.

The scientific basis for the current treatment of Parkinson's disease
Article Abstract:
The usage levodopa, which is used for the treatment of age-related neurodegenerative disease called Parkinson's disease (PD), is limited due to some motor complications and continues disease progression. The new scientific development methods for the treatment of PD are discussed.
