Grapelike leiomyoma of the uterus
Article Abstract:
Grapelike tumors of the uterus may be benign despite their malignant appearance, and should be analyzed before performing a hysterectomy, especially in young women. Researchers describe a case of grapelike leiomyomas, benign tumors of the smooth muscle of the uterus that resemble a bunch of grapes, in a 24-year-old woman. Surgically removed tumor samples were found to be benign, even though the diagnosis during surgery was of a malignant tumor. Surgeons then removed the tumors, trying to keep the uterus as intact as possible. Progestogen was prescribed to treat any remaining tumor. Six months later the patient desired to become pregnant, but was unsuccessful. Minimal surgery may be recommended in removing benign tumors from young women, to preserve their fertility.

A novel complementary deoxyribonucleic acid is abundantly and specifically expressed in the uterus during pregnancy
Article Abstract:
A newly identified complementary DNA may be expressed only in the uterus during pregnancy. Researchers identified a new complementary DNA from DNA types in the pregnant mouse uterus and analyzed its levels in pregnancy and after birth. Levels of the new complementary DNA were highest in the uterus during late pregnancy, dropped quickly after birth, and were gone by the third postpartum day. The complementary DNA was found only in the pregnant uterus and not in other maternal or fetal tissue samples. The complementary DNA may convert a protein that possibly contains a signal peptide.
