A clearer view of effusive-constrictive pericarditis
Article Abstract:
Some patients who have symptoms of cardiac tamponade and pericardial effusion may have effusive-constrictive pericarditis. This means there is fluid inside the outer membrane that surrounds the heart, but the inner membrane is constricting the heart. In these patients, removing the fluid is not enough to relieve their symptoms. The inner membrane must also be removed.

Effusive-consrictive pericarditis
Article Abstract:
Doctors present a detailed discussion of 15 patients who had effusive-constrictive pericarditis. Pericarditis is an inflammation of the membrane that surrounds the heart. Sometimes the space between the membrane and the heart fills with fluid, which constricts the heart and prevents it from beating.

Undercover and overlooked
Article Abstract:
The challenges in recognizing a slowly progressive and uncommon cause (constrictive pericarditis) of a very common clinical syndrome (heart failure) are demonstrated. Surgical pericardiectomy is a highly effective and potentially curative treatment for heart failure due to constrictive pericarditis.
