Children's nurses develop unique relationships with parents, helping them to play a key role in caring for their child. Children's' nurses must be able to ensure parents understand often complex information about their child's care, the choices available to them and the possible consequences of these choices and must be able to do this at a stressful time when parents may be frantic with worry about their child's health.

Unwanted teenage pregnancy is a growing problem in Wales, and surgical nurses are increasingly confronted with caring for teenagers seeking surgical abortion. Anticipating the psychological and biological aspects of this procedure permits nurses to help reduce a teenager's pain and anxiety.
