A mental health nurse has given her views and experiences on mental health nursing along with the opportunities in mental health. Becky Auton, a modern matron on the Long Fox Unit, Weston General Hospital, part of Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust, is involved on a trust-wide basis in policy development and in addressing some of the key issues affecting the whole NHS.

Extending the boundaries of care
Article Abstract:
The care and treatment in psychiatric setting focused on containment rather than recovery, so partings were far more likely to be trancullised then helped to address the causes or manifestation of their illness. Service providers are also increasingly acknowledging the value of nurse's contribution to mental health care.

Introducing an electronic blood-tracking system
Article Abstract:
A new electronic system initiated by a trust that records data at every stage during a blood transfusion procedure and helps to reduce staff error improving patient safety is discussed.
