A prospective longitudinal evaluation of pregnancy in the Marfan syndrome
Article Abstract:
Women with Marfan syndrome and minimal cardiovascular symptoms may be able to tolerate pregnancy safely. Researchers studied 45 pregnancies of 21 women with Marfan syndrome, an inherited disorder involving the eyes, heart, and skeleton. The root of the aorta may become dilated and be prone to dissection, rupture, or regurgitation. Infants born to women in the study had normal birth weights. The miscarriage rate was normal. Three women had serious cardiovascular events, including aortic dissection, regurgitation, and root dilatation. Cardiovascular involvement did not get worse during pregnancy for the rest of the women. Treatment with beta blockers may be continued from the second trimester of pregnancy onward without harm to the fetus.

Abundant vascular anastomoses in monoamniotic versus diamniotic monochorionic placentas
Article Abstract:
The presence of bidirectional channels for blood flow in the placentas of monoamniotic twins may explain why they have a low risk of twin-twin transfusion syndrome. Monoamniotic twins are identical twins that grow inside one amniotic sac. Researchers studied the blood circulation in placentas taken from 18 pregnant women after childbirth. Six had a monoamniotic twin pregnancy and 12 had a normal twin pregnancy. The monoamniotic placentas had more bidirectional blood vessels than the diamniotic placentas.

Unequal placental sharing and birth weight discordance in monochronic diamniotic twins
Article Abstract:
Study is conducted to define the association between unequal placental sharing and birth weight discordance in monochrionic/diamniotic twin pregnancies. It is concluded that unequal placental sharing is significant risk factor for birth weight discordance in monochronic/diamniotic twins.
