Structural anatomy of the posterior pelvic compartment as it relates to rectocele
Article Abstract:
A gynecologist describes the anatomy of the pelvic compartment in women that contains the colon and rectum. The uterus and vagina are connected to the sides of the pelvis by connective tissue. This creates a compartment in the front that contains the bladder and urethra and a compartment in the back that contains the colon and rectum. The lower end of the rectum and anus are supported by the perineal membrane, the levator ani muscles and other connective tissues that make up the floor of the pelvis and support all the pelvic organs.
