Abortion pill power play: test case over use of RU-486 appealed to high court
Article Abstract:
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas is reviewing the case of Leona Benten, who brought a quantity of the abortion-inducing drug RU-486 into the US despite a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ban. Lawyers for Benten have argued that, because she only purchased the drug for her personal use, she should be granted an exception to the ban, as the FDA sometimes does for cancer or AIDS patients who import illegal treatments. The FDA maintains that, since surgical abortions are a known and effective procedure, no such exception should be granted in the case of RU-486.

Teen focus groups show opposition to abortion
Article Abstract:
A study published in Alan Guttmacher Institute's 'Family Planning Perspective' journal indicated that most teenagers oppose abortion. The 1990 study consisted of 11 geographically, racially, religiously and ethnically mixed groups of five to 10 participants, male and female, ages 13 to 19. The study's authors concluded that teenagers were ignorant about abortion, believing it was 'painful, traumatic and could cause sterility.'
