Acarbose treatment and the risk of cardiovascular disease and hypertension in patients with impaired glucose tolerance: the STOP-NIDDM trial
Article Abstract:
Treating people with impaired glucose tolerance with acarbose may reduce their risk of developing high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease, according to a study of 1,368 patients. The most significant benefit was a 90% lower rate of heart attacks in the patients who took acarbose. Impaired glucose tolerance is considered an early sign of type 2 diabetes.
