Acceleration of fetal head induced by vibration of maternal abdominal wall in sheep
Article Abstract:
Fetuses exposed to vibration may experience the greatest vibration at levels of six to 12 Hertz. Whether repeated exposure to such vibration is harmful to pregnant women or their fetuses is unknown. Researchers used four pregnant sheep as a model for pregnant humans and their fetuses to determine the amount of vibration experienced by the fetus when the mother's abdomen was vibrated. A mechanical shaker was applied to the sheep abdomen and vibrated at various frequencies. The measurement of vibration experienced by the fetus's head was greatest, about 4% of input vibration, between six and 12 Hertz. Fetal vibration measured about 2% of the actual vibration at three Hertz, and tapered off to 0.2% at 60 Hertz. The relationship of vibration to the body and injury has been studied in adult men but not in women.

Thyrotropin-releasing hormone: does two hundred micrograms provide effective stimulation to the preterm fetal pituitary gland compared with four hundred micrograms?
Article Abstract:
A lower dose of thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) may be as successful as the usual higher dose in preventing respiratory complications in preterm infants. Researchers compared the effects of 200 micrograms of TRH versus 400 micrograms in 26 preterm pregnancies of 24 weeks to 33 weeks 6 days. Mothers received TRH intravenously a few hours before delivery. The lower dose of TRH was just as successful as the higher dose in elevating fetal pituitary and thyroid hormones, which in turn may prevent respiratory complications in the infants. Women who received TRH experienced side effects such as nausea, vomiting, facial flushing, and need to urinate, but these went away after the intravenous TRH infusion ended.
