Administrative issues in health care reform
Article Abstract:
Physicians often resent the amount of money spent by hospitals on administration. Many blame the problems of the health care system on administrators and administration. Despite these attitudes, administrative expenses need to be considered carefully in the development of a plan for health care reform. Many individuals feel that the Clinton administration's plan for managed competition could increase administrative costs. This plan supports competition between health care providers based on price and quality. Those who support this plan believe that its benefits outweigh the possible rise in administrative costs. Administrative systems play an important role in the provision of health care. The money invested in these systems may result in a higher quality of health care and lower long-term costs.

Changes in the scope of care provided by primary care physicians
Article Abstract:
Many doctors who participate in managed care plans believe the work they are asked to do is more than they should be doing. Researchers surveyed 7,015 primary care physicians and 5,092 specialists. Almost one-third of the primary care physicians said the care they provide had increased over the past two years and 24% believed they were doing more than they should be doing. Doctors who participated in a managed care plan were more likely than others to believe they were doing more than they should.
