Adverse reaction to academics' prescription for success
Article Abstract:
Some academic physicians seem to be more interested in advancing their careers than in helping people in need. Unfortunately, these professionals are strategically poised to influence the next generation of practicing physicians, whom they denigrate. In a convention address, one academic admonished new teaching physicians that they would receive more acclaim by publishing science articles than by publishing 'how-to' articles, which they should do only as an end-resort to 'bail out private practitioners.'

Sued for 'being there,' MD laments the pressure to settle
Article Abstract:
A physician is urged to settle a malpractice claim although the care he gave was above criticism. The prosecution hired so-called experts to cast doubt on the treatment and the choice of drugs used. The victim's family recognize that the patient was greatly helped by the physician, who received no compensation. Threats of bankruptcy and inordinate amounts of time wasted on correspondence and court appearances can persuade a physician that continuing the battle may not be worth ruining his life.

'Toothless' diagnosis leaves physician biting his lip
Article Abstract:
The fear and dread over a dental diagnosis can be very traumatic for new parents. Similarly, receiving a casual diagnosis from a friend at a dinner party that their son's lack of tooth development may be a serious problem can really create anxiety for the parents. It is therefore important that the physician be aware of the dangers his diagnosis may bring his patients and the unnecessary anxiety and fear it may create.
