After Allitt
Article Abstract:
Trent Regional Health Authority, England has published a report of its inquiry into paediatric services at Grantham and Kesteven Hospital following murders by nurse, Beverley Allitt. The report criticises the lack of specialist paediatric staff, poor staff communication and inadequate management support. Department of Health recommendations on children's hospital care had not been implemented. Little attention was paid to staff concerns. However, the report has failed to address Allitt's suitability for nursing, her lack of supervision and the delay in involving the police.

The enemy within
Article Abstract:
Women are more at risk from domestic violence than attack by a stranger. Partners perpetrated 43% of female murders in 1990. Nurses and health visitors should raise their awareness of domestic violence. The UK Department of Health has adressed the issue in a guide to women's services. The Women's Aid Federation, England provides temporary accommodation for women and children in 200 refuges. The British Association of A&E Medicine will publish guidance on coping with domstic violence in autumn, 1993.
