Age no bar to a caring career
Article Abstract:
Nurses who become extensively involved in working with older people can find that there is a great deal of potential for creativity. Training in this area focuses on biological and physiological issues, and there is a need to address wider issues, including personal development and ageism. Nurses' clinical and medical skills can be very valuable in elderly care, as can social care-based skills. It is important to realize that sick elderly people have specialized needs, requiring nurses to be very quick to make accurate assessments.

Caring for patients with an ICD
Article Abstract:
The internal cardioverter difibrillator (ICD) takes only seconds to recognize an arrhythmia and deliver suitable treatment. It is surgically implanted through a clavicular incision. Some patients have been concerned about the shock delivered and have encountered emotional and psychological problems due to increased dependency on relatives and friends. Patients should be provided with safety advice when discharged.
