An 82-year-old man with pulmonary densities and a mass in the left upper abdominal quadrant
Article Abstract:
An 82-year-old man was diagnosed with B-cell type malignant lymphoma affecting the lung and abdomen. Malignant lymphomas are tumors of the lymph tissue, and B-cells play an active role in the body's immune system. The patient was complaining of abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting and had a history of dry coughing and difficulty breathing. X-rays revealed a loss of volume in the lungs and a large mass on the left kidney. An initial diagnosis of lymphoma was made based on the patient's age, combined involvement of the lungs and abdomen, abnormal blood proteins and abnormal B-cells. The diagnosis was confirmed after tissue from the mass on the kidney was examined. This lymphoma probably originated in a lymph node of the lung and then moved into the abdomen.

An 82-year-old woman with odynophagia and a large mediastinal mass
Article Abstract:
An 82-year-old woman arrived at the hospital with pain upon swallowing, back pain, and a history of curvature of the spine and heartburn. X-rays, a CT scan, and a magnetic resonance imaging scan revealed a mass in front of her spine, running from her lower neck to the level of her heart. The mass compressed but did not enter the surrounding organs. Surgery was performed to remove the mass, which was found to be a collection of blood called a hematoma. The hematoma was caused by a hemorrhage of the parathyroid gland. The patient was discharged seven days after surgery and treated with thyroid stimulating medication. Ten weeks after her discharge her physical exam and parathyroid hormones were normal.

A 64-year-old man with Cushing's syndrome and a pancreatic mass
Article Abstract:
A 64-year-old man was admitted to a hospital because he had signs of excessive cortisol production. Cortisol is produced by the adrenal glands, and an excess causes a disease called Cushing's disease. Most often, this is caused by a pituitary gland tumor, but other tumors can also cause it. A CT of his abdomen showed a mass in his pancreas. The tumor was surgically removed.
