Approach with care
Article Abstract:
Some psychiatric patients benefit from counselling on a one-to-one basis but group counselling may prove more appropriate for others. Although patients at one-to-one sessions have the counsellor's undivided attention, individual counselling can actually prevent some issues from emerging. Groups can provide support and help patients resolve their difficulties by listening to the problems of others, but having the right mix of group members is essential. The needs of each individual patient are paramount when deciding whether to use the individual or group counselling approach.

Evaluating the nurse approach to tonometry
Article Abstract:
The manual collection procedure used for gastrointestinal tonometry should be monitored to ensure that patients always receive the best medical attention. Studies have shown that 1 in 15 nurses who take samples for intragastic PaCO2 and pHi calculations are often making errors, and that their qualifications and experience have no effect on these results. The findings indicate that one intensive care unit in particular makes inaccurate measurements which may jeopardise patient care. Further education is recommended.
