Pattern of U.S. tuberculosis cases shifting
Article Abstract:
Tuberculosis (TB) has reduced among those born in the U.S., but has increased in foreign-born individuals living in the U.S. The rise in TB has prompted the public health officials to call for updated guidelines to address the latent TB infection among individuals from high-risk countries who have lived in the U.S. for more than 5 years.

Rapid increase in HIV rates -- Orel Oblast, Russian Federation, 1999-2001
Article Abstract:
The number of people in Orel Oblast, Russia, who have HIV infection increased from eight between 1987-1998 to 380 between 1999 and 2001. Eighty-two percent of these patients are young male intravenous drug addicts. Over half shared needles, indicating a potential risk factor that could be eliminated.
