Views of illicit drug users on their treatment and behaviour in Scottish pharmacies: implications for the harm-reduction strategy
Article Abstract:
The implementation of a harm reduction strategy, particularly the provision of needle and syringe exchange services and the supply of methadone, has brought drug users into pharmacies in Scotland. Research among drug users indicates that many feel that they are treated differently from other customers in pharmacies, with some reporting having been patronized by the pharmacist or pharmacy staff. Encountering a negative attitude tends to make the drug user more likely to be rude, aggressive or violent. It is clear that undergraduate pharmacy education needs to include the management of illicit drug use and the role of the community pharmacist.

New Yorkers support assisted suicide - for others
Article Abstract:
A Quinnipiac College poll of 715 registered voters showed that most New Yorkers support assisted suicide, although they would not use it themselves. Sixty-one percent of respondents, polled during April 1996, supported the idea of physicians' aiding terminally ill patients who want to take their own lives. However, only 43% of people over the age of 65 supported the idea. In addition, 88% were in favor of a woman's right to an abortion.
