Presentation of autoantibody to proliferating cell nuclear antigen in patients with chronic hepatitis B and C virus infection
Article Abstract:
The authors present their results from a series of tests made to determine which disorder produces antibodies to proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA). They drew blood from patients with chronic hepatitis B (HBV), hepatitis C (HCV), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren's syndrome, polymyositis, and biliary cirrhosis. Using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), they determined that HBV and HCV patients have the antibodies, but that, aside from SLE, patients with autoimmune diseases do not.
