Autonomic disorders and their recognition
Article Abstract:
Determining what type of autonomic dysfunction patients have is crucial in determining what treatment they will receive. The autonomic nervous system controls many vital processes in the body such as body temperature and blood pressure. It can occur as a primary disease or secondary to another disease such as diabetes or spinal cord injury. Signs and symptoms include orthostatic hypotension, incontinence, erectile dysfunction, and visual disorders. Some types of autonomic dysfunction occur in the spinal cord while others occur in the peripheral nervous system.

Eating disorders and diabetic complications
Article Abstract:
More research is needed to determine exactly how an eating disorder increases the risk of diabetic complications. A 1997 study found that teenage girls with type 1, or insulin-dependent, diabetes and an eating disorder were three times more likely to develop an eye disease called diabetic retinopathy than girls with normal eating behavior. However, the study relied on patient recall to determine eating patterns. Also, the girls did not have an eye exam at the beginning of the study, so it is not known how many already had diabetic retinopathy.
