Bar coding for patient safety
Article Abstract:
The Institute of Medicine published a report in 2000 that documented the incidence of medical mistakes, including data that showed that 3.7% of patients hospitalized in New York State were injured by medical treatments. The Veterans Affairs (VA) hospital system introduced a national bar-coding program to secure patient safety and reduce nursing errors, because of which one VA hospital documented a 24% decrease in the rate of medication-administration errors.

Article Abstract:
The Nobel Prize-winning humanitarian-aid organization Medecins sans Frontieres (MSF) left Afghanistan on 28th July 2004 and Iraq on 4th November 2004. MSF's departure is a signal of larger crisis within the humanitarian-aid community that forced many to question whether nonpartisan relief is still possible in such a political climate.
