Bruised but not beaten: Anna-Marie O'Rourke has fought addiction and won - a tribute to her and the health system. Now, in the middle of nurse training, her past is being thrown in her face
Article Abstract:
A student nurse is threatened with removal from her nursing diploma course at South Bank University in London, due to her past involvement in drugs and her problems with depression. After speaking to her GP, the occupational health department at her placement trust decided she was not fit to be on the course, and cited recommendations from the Beverly Allitt inquiry. She is continuing to attend lectures and has sought help from Unison, which is paying for an independent psychiatric evaluation to be submitted to the department in the New Year.
