CT angiography: Clearer picture, fuzzier reception
Article Abstract:
The 64-slice computed tomography (CT) scan capture high-quality motion-free images of the beating heart and coronary arteries, which allows the cardiologists and radiologists to identify atherosclerosis without the need for invasive coronary angiography. The emergence of CT angiography comes at a time when a new report from the National Research Council warns that low levels of ionizing radiation are likely to pose some risk of adverse health effects.

Electron-beam computed tomography for coronary calcium: A useful test to screen for coronary heart disease?
Article Abstract:
The use of electron-beam computed tomography (EBCT) for risk stratification or diagnosis among individuals with clinical symptoms of coronary disease (CHD) is presented, as coronary heart disease is the leading cause of death among men and women in most nations. Individuals without known or clinically suspected CHD must be tested and then followed up for clinical events to evaluate the efficacy of EBCT for screening.

Rationalization of care for acute coronary syndromes
Article Abstract:
Concerns about the rationale for regionalized acute coronary syndromes (ACS) care are presented and some potential unintended consequences are outlined. Proponents contend that regionalized ACXS would save lives by improving access to new technologies, specialist physicians, and higher-quality care not available at other centers.
