Call for school nursing to target sex and drugs issues
Article Abstract:
A larger multi-disciplinary team should take on the routine work of school nurses in order to allow more time to be spent on educating pupils about drugs and sexual health, according to 'In a Different Light,' a UK government report. Many pupils have concerns about illegal drugs and sexual health, and these are currently not being addressed by school nursing services. The report recommends that school profiles are compiled over five years, thus allowing a better assessment of health requirements, and that all school-age children should have access to health interviews.

Wheel of misfortune: Forced to gamble, then losing everything. That is how some universities see the latest nursing education shake-up
Article Abstract:
Universities and colleges are being made to undergo competitive tendering contracts and this has led to all teaching contracts being withdrawn from Portsmouth University's School of Healthcare Studies. The RCN and the National Association of Teachers in Further and Higher Education have voiced their protest at the new arrangements at Portsmouth. Nursing education has seen mean upheavals over past years and the local 'consortia' to control funding has been accused of short-termism and placing cost above educational quality.
