Can safety be too much fun?
Article Abstract:
Many companies initiate safety competitions to encourage employees to improve occupational safety. Proponents of such safety programs profess that they help focus workers' attention on safety and manifest a company's commitment to safety. However, critics argue that such programs only discourage workers from reporting injuries and workplace safety issues. The debate over the effectiveness of such programs is expected to intensify as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration gears itself to revise its reporting system.
