Cancer Screening in Elderly Patients: A Framework for Individualized Decision Making
Article Abstract:
Cancer screening programs should be tailored to the individual patient's values and preferences as well as the patient's life expectancy. Cancer screening is not very useful if the patient has a life expectancy of five years or less. Cancer screening can also be harmful by detecting tumors that would never have caused any serious problem.
