Case 19-2003: a five-day-old girl with leukocytosis and a worsening rash from birth
Article Abstract:
A five-day-old girl with a rash and an elevated white blood cell count was diagnosed with transient myeloproliferative disorder associated with trisomy 21. Trisomy 21 usually causes Down syndrome, but in this girl, only the white blood cells had trisomy 21. Thirty-five days after her birth, the abnormal white blood cells had disappeared and she no longer had trisomy 21.

A 72-year-old man with rapidly progressive leukemia, rash, and multiorgan failure
Article Abstract:
A 72-year-old man with multiple organ failure was diagnosed with adult T-cell leukemia-lymphoma caused by a virus called HTLV-I. This virus is common in the Caribbean region from which this man emigrated to the US. His doctors believed he had a poor prognosis and he died within 24 hours of his admission to the hospital.
