Cerebral hemorrhage in a 69-year-old woman receiving warfarin
Article Abstract:
A 69-year-old woman was admitted to a hospital when she suffered a hemorrhagic stroke. She had a history of recurrent numbness and was taking warfarin for presumed transient ischemic attacks, which are small, reversible strokes. Following admission, she gradually became comatose and died. An autopsy of her brain revealed amyloid deposits in many of her small cerebral arteries, a condition called cerebral amyloid angiopathy. The deposits are identical to those that occur in Alzheimer's disease. In fact, the autopsy revealed that this women also had Alzheimer's disease.

Small vessels, big problems
Article Abstract:
The consequences of small vessel disease is described and intracerebral hemorrhage represents perhaps the most catastrophic form of stroke. S mall vessels disease is also the predominant cause of silent strokes, arterio sclerosis and cerebral amyloid angiopathy. The treatment for these diseases would require medical therapies that protect the cerebral microvasculature from injury, such as vasculoprotective strategy.
